🗣 it takes me 30 seconds
Ok, sorry about the subject line 😂
This subject isn’t sexy. Voicemails.
One of the most debated 30 seconds in all of sales.
Some people say not to bother. “No one checks voicemail,” they argue. “It’s a waste of time.”
And to be fair, they have a point.
You’re probably not getting a call back.
But I still leave one almost every single time.

Here’s why it works for me:
- It’s quick and easy to do on the fly
- It takes very little time (30 seconds max)
- Most sales reps skip it, so it helps you stand out
- Most voicemails get transcribed, so your message is likely to be read

If you think about ROI, the time investment is tiny and the downside is basically zero.
Here’s the important part.
I never ask for a call back.
Instead, I reference the email I sent and tell them how to find it. The goal is to drive email opens, not return calls.
🎯 My go-to script:
“Hey Doug, I saw the recent (Observation) and had a few ideas on it.
Sent you an email on 12/16 at 1:53 PM CT. It’s titled (subject line) from Brian LaManna at Gong.io.
Might be the best cold email you’ve ever received. But you’ll be the judge of that.
No need to call back, but I promise it’s worth 30 seconds to read.
Would make my absolute day if you responded.”

This script builds instant relevance, gives them a reason to check their inbox, and adds just enough intrigue.
Maybe even enough to get a reply.

Let’s make it a huge week!
Why not us?
